Ride IQ: Testing Methodologies

Proctors of the Peloton

79“That Which Can be Measured Can be Improved… Ahh, but what to measure…” Michael McCormack, Coach with state-of-the-art indoor training facility

Progress is a philosophy that says that things can be improved. Some methods of research deal with measuring progress. For that research, we have cycling-related technologies and testing methodologies that measure many things related to improving performance and other concerns of the peloton. We measure viewer interest via media hits, but the real test may be in brand awareness through consumer choice added up in sales. We measure a snapshot of fitness based on lactate tolerance but the real test is race results. We measure aerodynamics in a wind tunnel but the real speed test may come down to skill in real-world weather. We measure power output but the real test is a faster time than everyone else. We measure inseam length compared with saddle height but the real test is lack of damage to soft tissues over time. We can measure body fat but the real test is in comparison with power output. We can measure blood levels of hematocrit but the real test is self-monitoring morality.

Regardless of all tests currently available, the science and industry of cycling must continue to strive for improvements in its proctoring of the peloton. Testing methodologies for doping control may have a time lag between emerging generations of ergogenic aids and ways to discover their use.

There are many mysteries yet to uncover, enlighten, detect, and discover. Devising and updating ways to measure effectiveness is a continual process. Self-monitoring and spiritual accountability have their place in our progress. Even God asks to be tested in terms of His faithfulness regarding 80finances. How much more then does the peloton require proctoring? We need more information of the right kind to make progress!

Prayer for Testing Methodologies
“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” 81Hosea 4:6

We confess we don’t know what we don’t know. We ask for constantly improving testing methodologies and ask blessings on test facilitators.

Ponder What methods am I using to measure progress in many areas? Affirm I seek proper proctors and programs to keep me progressing. Watch the results as one means to know how well you’re going.

80See above Malachi reference End Note #28. We tithe and He allows us to test His ability to bless us and provide – further enhancing our ability to tithe. But first we show we can be trusted with the increase by giving it where it is most needed.
